Folkways is Bestways

I noticed something about mirrors.

Every time you look in a mirror you are comparing the image to the last time you looked in that mirror.  So, day to day, you don’t really notice yourself aging.  Because you’re only comparing yourself to an image that’s a day old.

I only notice I’ve aged when I look at myself in the mirror of the bathroom in my parents‘ house, because when I get there and look in the mirror for the first time I’m always comparing myself to an image that is at least a year old.

This is a kind of folk science, and I have many.

I think you judge the tempo of music based on your heart rate, too.  Music slows down when I’m jogging.  Musicians rush during difficult passages because their pulse rises with the stress.
